Snow chances dropping for Christmas 2020 in Central Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - It will likely turn sharply colder for Christmas Day, but the chances for a White Christmas are trending down.
A White Christmas is officially defined as 1 inch or more of snow on the ground on Christmas morning at 7 a.m. EST. It does not actually have to be snowing on Christmas Day to qualify as a White Christmas.
It might not feel like it Tuesday morning, but it is expected to be the warmest day of the workweek. Showers on Wednesday usher in cold temps just in time for the Phillies home opener. NBC10’s Bill Henley has your First Alert Weather.

Skies will stay mostly cloudy Tuesday night, with lows mostly in the 20s.
With highs in the mid 40s, rain is likely Wednesday. Lows will be at freezing or a little below Wednesday night, so we could see some snow mix in, especially at the upper elevations.
Skies will be mostly cloudy Friday and stay that way Friday night.
We can expect a chance of mixed showers staying with us through the weekend and into next week. Highs will be in the mid 40s to low 50s and lows will be in the mid 20s to low 30s.

CBS 21 WEATHER WARN DAY because of a major snow storm heading our way. The snow will begin Mid-Day and rapidly intensify by this evening.
Heavy snow will continue to fall tonight and into the overnight hours before wrapping up around daybreak tomorrow. Snow will accumulate 8-12 inches over most of Central PA. Some locally heavier amounts of more than a foot are possible, with slightly smaller amounts to the south because of some warmer air working in changing the snow to sleet. This is a significant snowstorm and you should prepare now to be safe at home through the event and most of Thursday.
